Hardeman County EMS provides service to the citizens of Hardeman County Tennessee, and
is a county owned service.
Hardeman County lies in Southwest Tennessee and is the second county due East of Shelby County.
It borders the Tennessee counties of Madison and Haywood to the North, McNairy and Chester to the East,
Fayette County to the West, and the Mississippi Counties of Alcorn, Tippah, and Benton to the South.
Hardeman County is 670 square miles in area and has a 2010 population of 27,253.
We provide ALS service at a Class A rating.
We staff three ALS trucks 24 hours a day and have three backup ALS ambulances as reserves in case a
fourth crew is needed for the day or mechanical problems with one of the three front-line ambulances.
We also provide BLS services for appointments to and from medical facilities in the region for patients who are unable to
safely ride in a regular vehicle or wheel-chair van when approved by insurance or special arrangements are made.
Our Advanced EMT’s provide basic life support skills to patients including oxygen administration, advanced airway insertions such as the combitube, CPR, Automated Defibrillation,
peripheral intravenous cannulation, intravenous administration of D50 for hypoglycemia, aspirin and nitroglycerin administration for
chest pain, subcutaneous epinephrine injections for anaphylactic shock, trauma management, and more.
Our Paramedics can do all the afore mentioned EMT-IV skills plus more advanced airways such as endotracheal intubation, CPAP, end-tidal
CO2 monitoring, cardiac drugs, advanced drug therapy, jugular vein cannulation, adult and pediatric IO insertion, manual defibrillation,
cardiac monitoring, 12 lead EKG’s, and more.
Our cardiac monitors are currently the Lifepak 15’s. They have 12 Lead Capability with auto analysis, Advanced Pulse Oximetry
with integrated CO monitoring, End-Tidal CO2 monitoring of respirations through oral-nasal cannula or endotracheal tube cap,
BP monitoring, Bi-Phasic automated and manual defibrillation, and external cardiac pacing.
We use Frazer Built ambulances that provide the crew and patient plenty of room, and the patient compartment
is heated and cooled by an on-board heat pump that maintains ultimate patient and crew comfort.
All of our front-line ambulances have air-ride suspension that provide a smoother ride than conventional suspensions.
We also staff a Supervisor Response Vehicle that is manned by the Shift Supervisor on duty and is
equipped with emergency medical equipment to assist the ambulances or even respond to calls for assistance on it’s own.
This unit also carries the Physio-Control Lucas device. A device that performs mechanical chest compressions at a perfect
depth and rate during cardiac arrest situations.
On average we respond to 300+ calls per month for assistance.
911 calls are relayed via radio to our service through Hardeman County Central Dispatch located in the Hardeman County
Criminal Justice Complex. Central Dispatch also handles our radio communications. There is no emergency phone line at our service
so all calls for emergency assistance should be through dialing 911 only.
We have two medical air services that provide local coverage to our county; Air-Evac and Hospital Wing. Air-Evac’s local bases are Corinth,MS,
Savannah,TN, and Jackson,TN. Hospital Wing’s local bases are Selmer,TN, Brownsville,TN, and Memphis,TN. Both services have
memberships available for a fee and citizens are encouraged to buy a membership to both services as we will most likely utilize the closest
available service at the time of an emergency regardless of your membership status with either service. Memberships reduce or eliminate
the high cost for you when this service is used. This is to benefit you. Air Medical Services are used during emergencies when the crew deems
it neccessary for a patient to be transported by faster means to a non-local appropriate facility, or requires more advanced care than
we are able to provide to sustain life and/or limb.
The Hardeman County Rescue Squad provides all rescue related services in the county in many disciplines such as:
Vehicle Extrication
Farm Rescue
Big Rig Rescue
Water Rescue
And More...
The organization is a member of the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads (T.A.R.S.), and is all volunteer.
